Jeff Bridges fans today sent messages of support to the actor after he confirmed he had lymphoma.

The 70-year-old movie star, including Crazy Heart and True Grit, referred to one of his most famous characters from The Big Lebowski when he announced, "As the man says ... a new S ** T has appeared. I've been diagnosed with lymphoma." .

He added on Twitter: “Even though it is a serious illness, I am fortunate to have an amazing team of doctors and the prognosis is good. I will start the treatment and keep you posted on my recovery.

"I am very grateful for the love and support from my family and friends. Thank you for your prayers and good wishes."

Comedian Trafone Free wrote online: "Hey 2020, leave Jeff Bridges out of this!"

Author Don Winslow said, "It breaks my heart. I send Jeff Bridges with all my goodwill to overcome this."

"Incredibly sad news from the other Jeff Bridges. Your prayers, love, and positive emotions are on your way, dude," said Jeff Bridges, a senator for Arapahoe County, Colorado, who shares the name with the actor.

Bridges ended his online ad with a message urging fans to vote in the presidential election, adding: "Because we're all in this together. Love Jeff."

Lymphoma is a cancer of the lymphatic system - a network of vessels and glands that spread throughout the body.

Bridges was born into a family of artworks, with son Lloyd and Dorothy Bridges winning an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for his performance as Otis "Bad" Blake in the movie Crazy Heart.
