Vanessa Bryant waited another day to unlock the surprise that she had never expected, and she had never known.
On Monday, the day before her 38th birthday, the wife of basketball legend Kobe Bryant found "another message" from her late husband.
It has been three months since the former Los Angeles Lakers Bryant, his daughter Gianna, and seven other people were killed in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California.
Yesterday I found an envelope titled: Love of my Life. From Tu Papi, "Vanessa posted on Instagram." I waited to open another message on my birthday. She gave me something to look forward to today.
"The irony is that Kobe had a picture of me drawn with an angel carried by an artist on the cover. I miss the love of my life and my little girl Mamasita - my fellow bull. I am grateful to wake up to three dessert girls today. I hope we are all together. #MyBirthdayWish."
Kobe and Vanessa married in 2001 and were celebrating their 19th wedding anniversary last month.
Besides Gianna, the couple has three other daughters: Natalia, Bianca, and Capri
Gianna could have been 14 years old on May 1, and Vanessa praised her daughter last week by asking friends, family and fans to wear red, her favorite color.
Kobe appeared this week after his death in Netflix's "The Last Dance" documentary detailing Michael Jordan's life, focusing on the 1997-1998 winning team.
