Doug Pederson, the Philadelphia Eagles coach, admitted he wasn't expecting to be in the current situation his team is in.
"I wasn't expecting to be here, no," Pederson said during a news conference on Wednesday morning.
Some of the Eagles players were even surprised that Wentz would be falling on the bench because of Hearts. But the Eagles need a spark and we'll see if Hurts can give them away on just Sunday in front of the New Orleans Saints at Lincoln Financial Field.
Pederson wants to see Hurts be himself and does nothing more.
Pederson said, “Just go there this week, and clearly take control of the gathering and lead the way he knows. Here's my message to him: Be Galen Hortus. Do the things you can do. "
Pederson is not bound to Hurts after Sunday's game against New Orleans.
The coach still thinks Wentz could be an "exceptional" QB in the NFL.
"It proved it," Pederson said. "We have to keep fighting, fighting, working, going back to Carson Wentz, and getting back on the right track. That's my focus with him."

Pederson said Wintz needs to "embrace" and "understand" the benefit of looking at this difficult situation through a different lens as he contemplates and tries to remedy it.
Rigor said Hortus can command the Eagles but he also believes Carson Wentz can regain his strength
Eagles W.R. Greg Ward said he was surprised by the decision.
At the same time, he described Hortes as a "born leader."
The Eagles play against Saints Sunday at 4:25 pm.
